Community and Volunteer Work
Karen is active in her community through many sustainability, science and squash activities. She has served on the Vancouver Lawn Tennis & Badminton Club Facilities Committee for over 5 years, as well as the Jericho Tennis Club Sustainability Sub-Committee.
Horrified by the realization that it takes 400+ years for a tennis ball to decompose naturally, Karen started and has grown Project Re-Bounce, a landfill diversion effort to divert sports equipment at end-of-life from landfill, into a province-wide program. The volume of sports equipment diverted from landfill since 2021 is on track to break 1,000,000 tennis-ball-equivalents by volume by the end of 2024.
Karen chairs the BC Jesters, an international organization dedicated to the promotion and inclusivity of squash, serves as a volunteer mediator for Squash BC, a national referee for doubles squash, and a judge for the Vancouver Science Fair.
