William Holder

Bill is a senior mediator, arbitrator, and litigator who combines an extensive understanding of the law with a wealth of strategic experience in assisting clients on a range of business issues. With a successful track record of more than 40 years resolving commercial disputes, Bill sees all sides of an issue to help counsel and their clients find the best solution to the dispute at hand.

His advanced mediation training in British Columbia and at Harvard Law School has provided Bill with a strong foundation from which he operates as a highly effective mediator.  He is equally comfortable utilising either a facilitative or evaluative approach, but with the agreement of counsel, prefers the latter. Bill is known for helping parties assess risk, identify practical solutions, and move toward resolution in an efficient manner.

Bill has also completed advanced training in med-arb procedures and is available to assist counsel and parties as both a mediator-arbitrator and arbitrator.

Bill served as a mediator on the Civil Roster of Mediate BC for many years and serves as Chair of Clark Wilson LLP’s Mediation and Arbitration Practice Group. He previously served for five years as Chair of the Canadian Bar Association’s Vancouver ADR Subsection and later as Chair of the CBA’s National Dispute Resolution Section.  He has also successfully completed Social Justice Mediation Training in collaboration with the ShchEma-mee.tkt (Our Children) Project enabling him to design and employ customized dispute resolution processes for mediations involving First Nations communities and Indigenous Peoples.
